American Heart Month
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States:
- One person dies every 34 seconds from cardiovascular disease.
- In 2023, 1 in 3 deaths were attributed to cardiovascular disease.
- Someone has a heart attack every 40 seconds.
- About 1 in 5 heart attacks is silent—the damage is done but the person is not aware of it.
Knowing heart attack signs and symptoms may save a life!
Lifestyle changes can reduce primary heart disease risk factors. These factors include high blood pressure and high cholesterol. For better heart health, strive to be physically active about 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week; don’t smoke; eat a healthy diet; and manage stress.
