This week is Construction Suicide Prevention Week

Published: 09/09/2025

Despite only accounting for 7.4% of the national workforce, construction workers account for nearly one-fifth of suicide deaths among all industries.

There are many risk factors that contribute to suicidal thoughts and behaviors such as serious illness, substance use, legal or financial problems, as well as mental health issues. A recent study by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs reports that loneliness is the strongest risk factor for suicide attempt.

Building a stronger sense of community and support is a strong protective factor. As we recognize Construction Suicide Prevention Week, reach out to coworkers, friends, and family.  Ask how they are doing, really listen, and let them know there are folks they can go to for support during difficult times. Together we can make a difference.
