UCOR’s Controlled Low-Strength Material (CLSM) pour team has officially wrapped up filling the Beta-1 basement at Y-12 with over 26,000 cubic yards of CLSM, a cement mix made of fly ash, sand, and cement. The building is in the final stages of being demolition ready.
This achievement is a testament to the collaboration and teamwork among various organizations, including Premier Contracting & Technical Services, which provided project oversight and pump truck equipment, and Harrison Construction, which provided the CLSM. With the CLSM in place, the heavy demolition equipment that will be used to demolish the building will have a solid surface on which to maneuver.
The conclusion of the year-and-a-half-long effort to deactivate the Beta-1 basement could not have happened without the crew’s exceptional efforts.
The UCOR concrete pour team consisted of multiple experts to get the work done safely. The team won a Tennessee Concrete Association award early this year for its efforts, demonstrating a strong commitment to operational excellence and collaboration.
