To the UCOR Workforce:
As I’m sure you know, one of the five elements of the Voluntary Protection Program is employee involvement. That’s important because you are the ones doing the work and know what could be made safer. Across UCOR, I see and appreciate how actively focused the team is on safety every day.
Our Local Safety Improvement Teams, or LSITs, are a vital part of our safety program. The chairs and co-chairs of each of the 14 groups work hard to find creative ways to make safety real for us. For example, at the recent meeting of THE HIVE—our LSIT at 701 Scarboro—attendees received an in-person demonstration of tourniquet tying. I know that equally interesting and important activities are happening at all the LSITs.
I’m challenging you to be an active member of your LSIT. In fact, over the next 12 months, I’m planning to attend a meeting of each LSIT. I look forward to learning more about the work each of the groups is doing across our worksite.
Together, we will continue keeping our workplace safe, so that we can go home every day in the same condition in which we came to work.
Best Regards,
Jim Blankenhorn
UCOR President and Program Manager
