Published: 09/03/2025

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month – a time highlighted each year to raise awareness, action, and hope.  Suicide remains the 11th leading cause of death in the U.S.  Current suicide rates are reported to be at a 70-year high, emphasizing the need for stronger support and resources.

If you or someone you love is struggling, know that you are not alone. The Mental Wellbeing Center team cares about you! You can contact the Center at 865-535-8558, Monday through Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. to get free and confidential help.

You can also call or text 988 at any time. The National 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is available 24/7/365 for free and confidential support from a trained crisis counselor.

The Mental Wellbeing Center will be hosting educational workshops on Suicide Awareness on Sept. 18 and Sept. 25. For more information or if you are interested in joining one of the workshops, contact the Mental Wellbeing Center at 865-535-8558 or email us at Navigate@orcc.doe.gov.
