UCOR’s conduct of operations (ConOps) helps to protect the workforce and the environment by minimizing the frequency and consequences of incidents. UCOR ConOps expectations apply to everyone who performs work in UCOR-controlled facilities and areas—every task, every activity, every time.
Key ConOps principles include:
Formality of operations: Tasks are performed with attention to detail, consistency, and professionalism — regardless of complexity or duration.
Clear roles and responsibilities: Workers, supervisors, and support personnel clearly understand and execute their defined duties.
Procedural adherence: Activities are conducted using approved work packages or procedures; deviations require formal justification and authorization.
Effective communication: Information is exchanged clearly and accurately, both within shifts and across shift turnovers.
Control of equipment and systems: Operational status is maintained through labeling, lockout/tagout, and administrative controls.
Training and qualification: The workforce is trained and qualified for assigned roles, with continuing education to maintain competencies.
Supervision and oversight: Line management actively oversee operations, providing guidance, intervention, and mentoring as needed.
Configuration management: Systems are maintained in known, approved states to prevent unauthorized changes or unsafe conditions.
Problem identification and resolution: Issues are identified promptly and addressed through formal corrective action processes.
Group Discussion:
• Which ConOps element is the most challenging for you to consistently maintain and why?
• What strategies have you (or your team) found effective in addressing that challenge?
